The San Francisco 49ers headed into the 2024 NFL season with high hopes of getting back to being a Super Bowl contender after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game back in February.
The 49ers came extremely close to winning their sixth Super Bowl title, as the game against the Chiefs went into overtime, but they fell short due to a game-winning touchdown by Mecole Hardman.
Even though the 49ers have one of the most stacked teams in the NFL, especially on the offensive side of the football, San Francisco had to head into the 2024 campaign without superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, which was a devastating blow for the storied franchise.
McCaffrey has yet to play a game for the 49ers this season as he tries to get back to 100 percent while dealing with a tricky calf and Achilles issue, which the team has been incredibly cautious with, for obvious reasons.
After the 49ers defeated the division-rival Seattle Seahawks on “Thursday Night Football,” the team announced that it would be opening the practice window for rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, but McCaffrey still won’t be practicing, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
Two notes from #49ers coach Kyle Shanahan’s press conference:
— The #49ers are planning to open the practice window for WR Ricky Pearsall, who could practice Monday.
— RB Christian McCaffrey’s practice window won’t be opened this week, as expected. Still too early.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 11, 2024
The return of Pearsall to the practice field is a great sign for the team and the player, who was shot in a robbery attempt in San Francisco before the season began and has seemingly made a full recovery.
As for McCaffrey, the uncertainty surrounding his playing status continues, which is concerning for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.
